Music and Murder

Alyn Shipton- A New History of Jazz, 2007    “The moment that hard-bop came to an end as a vital force in Jazz was when Lee Morgan was shot dead by his jealous mistress at Slug’s club on the lower east side of NYC. . .”

I was not at Slugs when Lee Morgan was shot. I got there about 3 hours later. It was February 1972. In early May, after I finished my course work for my Masters degree, I started at Slugs. When I read M. Shipton comments I realize that I had a behind the scenes view of a small but vital piece of jazz history. I am going to use this blog to tell that story as best as I can remember 45 years later. I hope you find it interesting.  After all, it starts with a infamous killing!

I would greatly appreciate any comment, questions or appreciation anyone has to offer. Or just leave a comment to let me know some one is looking at this.

Expect updates at least weekly.
